APPLICATION OF MODERN CALCULATION TECHNOLOGIES FOR ANALYSIS AND PREDICTION OF VENTILATION FLOWS AND SMOKE DURING FIRE AT SOME STATIONS OF “Kyiv Metro”

Problem. At present, the operation schemes of ventilation systems in case of fires at metro stations are designed using simplified empirical methods. For obvious reasons, checks on full-scale objects are not carried out. In such emergency situations, the lack of optimal evacuation schemes and fire modes of operation of ventilation systems can lead to human casualties.

A proposal to solve the problem. Application of the developed 3D CFD models for the analysis and forecasting of ventilation flows and smoke during a fire in the Kyiv metro. For this purpose, a model of the stations “Polytechnic Institute” and “Shuliavska” was created to calculate the processes of heat and mass exchange and the movement of ventilation air flows (clean and smoky) without and during fires at the stations without and with the presence of trains in the tunnels (Fig. a-b). Fig. c shows models of subway stations and tunnels in the crossing point between Shuliavska and Politekhnichnyi instytut stations.

The developed models were also created and applied to the analysis of the fire that occurred at the Osokorky station in 2013, taking into account the neighboring Slavutych and Pozniaky stations (Fig. c-d). Fig. c shows the computer model, and fig. d shows real photos of the fire at the Slavutych stations (left) and simulation of the fire (right).

Developed computer models make it possible to calculate and choose optimal measures for smoke protection of subway facilities, as well as in other emergency situations, both at subway stations and in tunnels.

Commercial offer. Application of computer models for calculating fire forecasts and choosing optimal measures for smoke protection of metro facilities, as well as in other emergency situations, both at metro stations and in tunnels.
